MARZIO CONTI
Principal conductor

Born in Florence, Marzio Conti began his artistic career as a flautist. Despite his being considered internationally one of Italy’s foremost exponents of the flute, he decided to give up his brilliant career as a soloist and a teacher to devote himself entirely to orchestra conducting. He collaborates regularly with Italian and international orchestras and organizations, such as the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio of Turin, the Orchestra of the Teatro Massimo of Palermo, the Orchestra of the Teatro Bellini of Catania, the Tuscan Regional Orchestra, the Orchestra of Padua and the Veneto, the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, the Picardy Orchestra, the Orchestra of Cannes and the Côte d’Azur, and the Oporto Symphony Orchestra, among others…

Mr. Conti also collaborates with internationally celebrated soloists, including Barbara Hendricks, Mischa Maisky, Boris Belkin and  Renato Bruson…

At present he holds the position of Chief conductor of the Teatro Marrucino of Chieti, having previously been guest conductor of the Abruzzo Symphonic Institution from 1999 to 2002 and principal conductor of the Turin Philharmonic Orchestra from 2001 to 2005.

Marzio Conti is the principal conductor of the National Classical Orchestra of Andorra and the artistic director of the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra.

With the orchestras with which he collaborates regularly, he has conducted in some of the most important concert seasons in Italy and abroad, including that of Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Serate Musicali of Milan, and those of the National Auditorium of Madrid and the Palau de la Musica Catalana of Barcelona. He has conducted Aida at the Saarbrucken Festival.

Mr. Conti has made numerous recordings for Naxos, Chandos, CPO and RS.

For the Chandos and CPO labels he has recorded Nino Rota’s Symphonies, Respighi’s lyrical poems and Casella’s symphonic music with the Orchestra of the Teatro Massimo of Palermo, and he has recorded the complete works of Malipiero with the Camerata Strumentale of Prato.

Likewise, for the Naxos label he has recorded G. Rossini’s Il turco in Italia and G. Donizetti’s La Fille du régiment, recording D. Cimarosa’s “Il Matrimonio segreto” in early 2005.

For the RS label Mr. Conti has recorded a CD of Mozart’s Symphonies with the Turin Philharmonic Orchestra and a CD of 20th-century French music (Fauré, Debussy…) with the Abruzzo Symphonic Institution, recording with this same orchestra a CD of Respighi’s complete works for small symphony orchestra (Trittico, Uccelli …).

He has likewise made numerous television appearances, recently achieving great success with the Traviata which he conducted in Italy’s Channel 5 programme Loggione..

He has established a collaboration with the music publishing company Ricordi for the recording of the Novecento Storico Italiano repertoire for the Naxos, Chandos and CPO labels with the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio of Turin.

In the coming concert season, Marzio Conti will conduct the Dortmunder Staatsoper Orchestra, the Athens State Orchestra, the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, the City of Oviedo Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale of Bologna. He will conduct La Bohème at the Teatro del Giglio of Lucca and in some of the foremost Teatri di Tradizione Italiani, as well as La Rondine at the Teatro Lirico of Abruzzo.
